Indigenous Youth Coordinator at the Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat, Tromsø, Norway

The IPS has a full-time position available for an Indigenous Youth Coordinator who can demonstrate a professional background and relevant experience and who is ready to take on a diverse portfolio of tasks while working in a multicultural and multilingual environment.
The Indigenous Peoples’ Secretariat (IPS) is an entity within the Arctic Council Secretariat with its own board and a designated budget and work plan. The main task for the IPS is to facilitate the participation of Indigenous Peoples’ organizations (Permanent Participants) in the work of the Arctic Council. The IPS has two permanent staff members, Executive Secretary and Advisor. The official working language is English.
Tasks and responsibilities
The IPS Indigenous Youth Coordinator will under the direction of the IPS Executive Secretary have the following tasks and responsibilities:
Assist with Indigenous youth participation in the work of the Arctic Council and Permanent Participants’ capacity-building
Facilitate coordination of the Permanent Participants’ Youth Network
Assist with Indigenous youth participation in relevant events, such as the Arctic Youth Conference 2027
Contribute to fundraising and project proposal development relevant to the work of the Permanent Participants and Permanent Participant youth in the Arctic Council
Prepare relevant reports, briefs and background papers for the six Arctic Council Permanent Participants
Contribute to IPS outreach and communication
Assist the IPS Executive Secretary with relevant daily administrative routines.
The IPS Indigenous Youth Coordinator may be called upon to carry out or participate in the execution of other tasks as needed, according to the overall competency and resources available at the IPS.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent work experience
Experience with Arctic affairs, preferably from an international and intergovernmental environment
Excellent written and oral English language skills
Knowledge and understanding of Arctic Indigenous Peoples' cultures
Strong organizational skills
Diplomatic skills
A service-minded disposition and a solutions-oriented mindset
Ability to work well both independently and in teams
Strong IT skills
Demonstrated in depth knowledge of Indigenous Peoples’ languages, cultures and traditions is an asset for this position.
Requirements
In accordance with the ACS Staff Rules, article 5.2, applicants for this position must be a citizen of one of the eight Arctic States (Canada, Kingdom of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Sweden and USA). This is an absolute and non-negotiable requirement.
Terms and remuneration
The ACS offers a competitive remuneration package The annual salary will be in accordance with the salary levels in the ACS Staff Rules (Schedule A) and established on the basis of professional experience and qualifications. Membership in the Norwegian social security scheme, a private pension scheme, and home travel and dependency allowances are also a part of the overall compensation package.
Appointment
This is a temporary full-time position of 16 months with a six-month probation period. The tentative start-up date is late fall 2026.
